Neurofeedback was born out of the knowledge and science that our brains have the ability to change, grow, and improve.

This fact is summarized in a word called Neuroplasticity.

Beginnings

Neuroplasticity begins in our infancy as our brains are reorganizing and developing. It is, of course, a process that happens out of need as our brains are developing. Neuroscience research has found that, likewise, neuroplasticity also occurs when there is injury to the brain to try and compensate for loss of function. From childhood and throughout our adult lives our neuropathways are constantly changing and adapting at the neuron level to accept and handle new information when it is needed for improvement.

Neuroptimal Neurofeedback’s Natural Process

Specifically, NeurOptimal Neurofeedback mimics the method of communication the central nervous system uses during the perception and memory process. Through this method, it is mirroring back to the brain where it is not functioning optimally. This is a natural process of communication that the brain understands and is used to, and therefore, the brain “likes” the new information that it is being shown.

Through NeurOptimal brain-training sessions, your brain recognizes the need to change and to develop new and better pathways instead falling into the old, dysregulated patterns of responding.

Neurofeedback itself has over 40 years of research showing how it addresses a wide range of neurological challenges, such as issues with stress, sleep, memory, anxiety and depression, PTSD, autism, ADD / ADHD, etc. It works because it feeds back to the brain wherever dysregulation is found, and shows it what it should be doing instead.

The Neuroptimal Neurofeedback Difference

Neuroscience research clearly shows that disrupted brainwaves are due to neurological issues. These issues show up in a variety of different forms including stress, anxiety and depression, PTSD, autism, seizures, ADD/ ADHD, etc. All of issues can cause brain dysregulations that can be effectively helped and/or normalized by feeding back to the brain what it should be doing, instead of what it is currently doing. Through advancements in technology, the NeurOptimal Neurofeedback system has become the state-of-the-art in the neurofeedback community. It has risen above the traditional form of neurofeedback in safety and effectiveness that most clinicians still use. Although there are others, three of the main reasons NeurOptimal Neurofeedback sets itself apart is that it feeds back to the brain in real-time 256 times per second what the brain is currently doing in every brain-training session for the highest level of accuracy. The systems “sees” and works with the entire brain at every session. Also, the system safely only shows the brain what the brain should be doing, and then allows the brains inherent ability to make changes.

NeurOptimal systems dont push the brain.

Unlike the benefits Integrative Mind Connections offers by using NeurOptimal Neurofeedback systems, traditional neurofeedback systems only work with two clusters in the brain at a time. Traditional neurofeedback also uses a one-time snapshot brain mapping through QEEG testing and a possible MRI, and extremely costly venture for the client that quickly becomes obsolete as training progresses. These results along with how you say you feel is what a clinician then uses to push the brain in one or two areas, and is the information that is used during the weeks or months ahead for sessions. In the neurofeedback community, this is considered an older and more outdated process that offers much less accuracy and effectiveness in the progression of training, as opposed to the NeurOptimal Neurofeedback method of reading the brain constantly as the training is occurring, resulting in much faster and better results in the lives of our clients.

Scientific understanding of the way the brain works has been changing rapidly. A decade ago, brainwave patterns were not given much attention and the thought was that the brains cortical activity was fixed and unchangeable. This outdated understanding of brain function has since changed and Neurofeedback is quickly being implemented as a viable and even necessary modality.

These days, medical science has realized that these long held beliefs about the brain were simply medical myths. Neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to learn and change through life) is being realized as a fact and is now the focus of scientific and clinical application for various forms of brain dysregulation.

The brain sciences have advanced so quickly that medical establishments have yet to integrate approaches based on this new understanding; hence, a few but growing group of psychologists and physicians have an understanding of neurofeedback and its applications for brain retraining through neuroplasticity.

Neurofeedback employs a sophisticated, evidence-based approach with quantifiable results backed by over 30 years of clinical application. Still, old understandings tend to die hard, and overall mainstream understanding of neurofeedback is slow.

We don’t diagnose, nor is a diagnosis required to understand the problem of dysregulation within the brain. NeurOptimal Neurofeedback, using Joint Time Frequency Analysis (JTFA), mirrors back to the brain where it isn’t functioning optimally, so that the brain can finally seewhere changes are needed. A very natural and safe process.

The medical (DSM) diagnostic model doesn‘t fit well into the paradigm of neurofeedback. From our point of view, functional brain disorders and/or forms of brain dysregulation aren’t diseases or illnesses. We do not view anxiety, depression, insomnia, concussions, PTSD, memory, focus, autism, etc. as illnesses to treat, but as reflections of fundamental brain dysregulation, any of which could benefit from brain training.

For this reason, neurofeedback is more clearly viewed as brain training rather than a method of treatment; a way to shift your mind out of stuck” patterns it currently sees as normal functioning to relieve the corresponding symptoms. Nor is neurofeedback viewed as a cure for these diagnosed conditions; we work toward symptom resolution by resolving the underlying imbalances.

By understanding the difference between a diagnosis and how neurofeedback treats the brain’s tendency to form dysregulated patterns of functioning through an intricate process of retraining the brain, we find that our clients are often are relieved when they finally know what’s “wrong” with their brains is NOT necessarily a disorder, but instead could be better termed as a dysregulation AND that that dysregulation can be helped and there is something that can actually be done to change it!

Since neurofeedback involves learning and every person is unique, the type, order and pace of change differs from person to person. Young brains learn much faster than older ones, and a small issue shifts quicker than a big one.

Typically, the more long standing and entrenched the symptoms the more sessions are required. You can expect the gains to be cumulative over the course. For a good degree of symptom resolution, we recommend 35 to 50 sessions, with an average of 40 sessions.

At Integrative Mind Connections, we place a high priority on helping you to meet your goals. Through the process of neurofeedback training, it is important to understand that people, of course, are different, as is the depth of their challenges and the length of time they’ve been experiencing those challenges. This means that while the understood national and global average number of needed NeurOptimal Neurofeedback sessions is about 40 before solid changes should be expected, some will experience desired changes with their issues with more or slightly less.

Understandably, if you’ve been dealing with your challenges for a long time, you will want to see immediate changes within a short period of time. This is just one reason that Integrative Mind Connections offers a variety of modalities that will help in the short term with symptom reduction through supplement support, mindfulness training, and counseling alongside the neurofeedback training.

As with anything that will provide great value over time, it will be important to you to have the right amount of patience along with a realistic time frame of personal expectations. Just as important, as it is with all of life, will be your positive mindset and perspective. You must choose to trust and believe in the validated process of neurofeedback, and to keep in mind along the way in your journey of working towards the completion of the recommended number of sessions that, despite your difficulties, literally thousands of people in need have been already been helped through the same process. There are over 3 million hours of positive results from Neuroptimal Neurofeedback training sessions, and you are not the anomaly that can’t be helped. Your perspective will always effect the results of any modality. With a committed positive view to the future, you are on your way to a brighter future!

Most report subtle changes along the way as they are working toward their 40 sessions, a feeling of regaining the vitality they had gradually lost as other things got in the way. A feeling of being more comfortable in their own skin; feeling more like themselves – alert and relaxed, alive and quiet at the same time. Neurofeedback helps create a sort of distance between you and the challenges you face, so while you recognize the challenges, you are more prepared and competent to handle them.

The shifts are so organic to the brain that the new ways you begin to feel and act seem perfectly natural – and it is, as you are acting more like yourself and less from automatic reactions. It doesn’t mean you wont encounter life’s problems anymore, it just means youll handle them in a healthier way and the feelings wont linger as before.

A fully balanced state is experienced as happiness, contentment, and clarity. Being in balance allows you to gain control and make choices that you werent able to before, as getting out of stuck habits allows you the freedom to choose your reactions rather than be over-run by them.

As you begin the process of venturing into the new world of neurofeedback through Integrative Mind Connections, what you can expect above all is HOPE.
